In this place, every action of every volunteer and worker is designed to enhance the activity of writing. It worked for me. I slowed, settled, sank down to a deeper layer, a slower work, a more profound level of engagement with my m/s, with my wordplay. (more…)

Anne Spudvilas: “My desk when I was in the master bedroom and its great work space – I loved working at this desk looking out into the treetops.”

Anne Spudvilas, who spent time at Varuna early this year, is a multi-award winning illustrator of children’s books who also works as a courtroom artist for the Melbourne media. Her first picture book The Race was awarded the Crichton Award for Illustration and CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) Honour Book. In 2000 she won CBCA Picture Book of the Year with Jenny Angel, which was also shortlisted for the NSW Premiers Award. (more…)
